  • Community Event: ALTON WEAGLE DAY
    8am – 5pm • Mt Washington Auto Road Alton Weagle had a passion for Mt. Washington. To show his passion, he climbed the Mt. Washington Auto Road in a number of unique ways: by car, on foot, walking backwards, blindfolded and finally pushing a wheelbarrow full of sugar…just to name a few. We invite you to dream up a “first ascent” of some kind and run the idea by us – you just may get invited to celebrate with us!   • Community Event: BIRDING at BROWNFIELD BOG (Tin Mountain Conservation Center program)
    7-10am • Meet at G&S Store in Brownfield, Maine
    Join birders of all levels on this weekly bird walk through the bog and view the rich diversity of bird life that makes it way north to rest or nest. Bring binoculars (or borrow ours), rubber boots, and a snack.

    Come choose from a large selection of locally grown perennials, annuals, seedlings, and houseplants to enhance your home and gardens! Proceeds from  plant sale support the distribution of cooking/heating stoves in the areas of Zimbabwe affected by the devastating hurricane Idai. **If you are fortunate enough to have an abundance of plants; perennials that need dividing,  extra seedlings, or a healthy houseplant looking for a new home…please consider donating to our sale!** If you need pots, please help yourself to the ones under the stairwell at the church.     9am until 1pm • Meet at the Downes Brook/ UNH Trailhead on the Kancamagus Highway
    Strap on your skis and join the TMCC naturalist staff on the beautiful spruce-lined winter trails of the Kanc.  A series of short loops along the edge of Hedgehog Mountain lead skiers over the ungroomed trails of the WMNF.  While the terrain is beginner friendly there will be moderate climbs and downhill runs along the way.
  • Community Event: MOON, PLANETS & ZODIAC: Your Nightly Guide to Our Journey through Space
    6-8pm • Whitney Community Center, Jackson
    Led by Tin Mountain Conservation Center staff. Understanding and observing the nightly phases of the moon and its relative position within the zodiac is a key to understanding, enjoying, and contemplating our night skies. What is the real world significance of the zodiac beyond just a tool of astrology? How does it help us understand our movement through space? What causes the phases of the moon? This program for all ages will answer some of these basic questions to help enhance your nightly sky gazing. If the skies are clear, the program will include time outside for identifying constellations of the zodiac and using a telescope.

    Over 60 years ago America was in the peak of the industrial revolution and the nation’s waterways were dying from dams, water diversions and pollution. Run Wild Run Free takes the viewer through the history and current state of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act that sought to protect these waterways. Join Tin Mountain Conservation Center, the Jackson Conservation Commission, and former Director of Research for the AMC, Dr. Kenneth Kimball, for this celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Cost: $3/pp or $5/family.
