    An exciting nature program “Bizarre Birds of the World” with Steve Hale, owner of Open World Explorers. With over 10,000 bird species in the world, there are some amazing featured creatures that stretch our understanding of what it means to be a bird. This entertaining and educational program features extreme examples of birds and bird biology.  Some of the special birds included in this program are the Hoatzin, Kakapo, Oilbird, Standard Wing Nightjar, and more. Come help paint and prep more rooms at Nativity Lutheran Church in order to welcome guests of the Way Station, a day resource center to provide essential services to the valley’s homeless and housing insecure population, including showers, laundry, internet access, post office box, lockers and more. Wear old clothing, supplies and paint will be provided! Staff and members of our church are serving as some of the motivating people behind the startup and opening of this new organization! Staff and members of our church are helping kick-start this initiative.

    Strap on your skis and join the TMCC naturalist staff on the beautiful spruce-lined winter trails of the Kanc.  A series of short loops along the edge of Hedgehog Mountain lead skiers over the ungroomed trails of the WMNF.  While the terrain is beginner friendly there will be moderate climbs and downhill runs along the way.
  • Community Event: MOON, PLANETS & ZODIAC: Your Nightly Guide to Our Journey through Space
    6-8pm • Whitney Community Center, Jackson
    Led by Tin Mountain Conservation Center staff. Understanding and observing the nightly phases of the moon and its relative position within the zodiac is a key to understanding, enjoying, and contemplating our night skies. What is the real world significance of the zodiac beyond just a tool of astrology? How does it help us understand our movement through space? What causes the phases of the moon? This program for all ages will answer some of these basic questions to help enhance your nightly sky gazing. If the skies are clear, the program will include time outside for identifying constellations of the zodiac and using a telescope.

    More info. Volunteers also welcome: contact Sarah Kimball. 16th year of the White Mountain Classic event: this is a popular citizen’s race and tour and also serves as a one-day New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) Championship.  The event lunch, run by the Jackson Grammar School at the Whitney Community Center, is one of the school’s major fundraisers. This is a classic technique marathon utilizing the unique trail systems in and around Jackson Village. The course includes Jackson’s FIS Homologated Course, Wentworth Golf Course, and Eagle Mtn. Fields. Entry includes food stations, post-race meal, awards and random prizes to both racers and tourers. Proceeds will support youth nordic programs in the Mt Washington Valley. Touring Classes are untimed. All skiers 13 and under must tour with an adult.

    7-9 pm • Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Eastern Slopes, Tamworth, NH Our featured speaker, Dr. Donna San Antonio, will address the topic “Becoming a White Ally: Stories of Mentoring Toward Social Justice” using personal reflection as a springboard for considering the inter-sectionality of race, ethnicity, gender, and social class. Also included in the program will be music by Peg Loughran, Shana Aisenberg and others. Storyteller (and World Fellowship Co-Director) Andy Davis will offer a story. A guilt-free potluck will follow.
