email scam

EMAIL SCAM

Beware: the church has been alerted that a scammer is once again using local clergy identities, including Rev Gail, to contact people and ask them to quickly email back and then buy gift cards: THIS IS FAKE, THEFT, FRAUD! The church will not ask you to ‘secretly’ or quickly buy anything like a gift card, then send the actual numbers by email. This is STEALING during a season of giving. CALL Rev Gail if you ever have a question, and don’t follow any email instructions like this! Neither Rev Gail or the church will ever send an email asking you to buy gift cards in a rush, and then ask you to forward the numbers: someone is stealing from you if they ask you to do this. We have again alerted the police. Its an ongoing problem for clergy all over the country, whose names are being used to con generous people. The scammer is NOT using the church email or Rev Gail’s personal email accounts, by the way, but sets up fake accounts and assigns them to clergy names. Rabbis, priests, ministers and others have all suffered the same problem of having their reputations used to steal from people. PLEASE DO NOT respond to the email.
