May 20 Spring Devotional

Tuesday, May 20

  • Scripture: Ephesians 2:10 – For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
  • Reflection: Just as spring represents new life and creativity, we, too, have been created with purpose.
When we accept that we are beloved, that we are also God’s handiwork, we are also embracing the idea that our mere presence in the world is already creating a positive impact. Yet this sense of connection to Godself, as children of a creator made in God’s image and likeness, also becomes a sense of responsibility and a desire to discover our purpose. Since we are made by God, as part of God”s design and intention for the world, this encourages us to live out our calling and contribute positively to creation.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Identify some way you can make a difference this week that reflects love and creativity, whether through service, kindness, or encouragement.

Song:

I can find nothing with which to compare the great beauty of a soul and its great capacity. In fact, however acute our intellects may be, they will no more be able to attain to a comprehension of this than to an understanding of God; for, as He Himself says, He created us in His image and likeness [Genesis 1:26]. Now if this is so—and it is—there is no point in our fatiguing ourselves by attempting to comprehend the beauty of this castle; for, though it is His creature, and there is therefore as much difference between it and God as between creature and Creator, the very fact that His Majesty says it is made in His image means that we can hardly form any conception of the soul’s great dignity and beauty. — St. Teresa of Avila
