May 19 Spring Devotional

Monday, May 19

  • Scripture: Psalm 147:8 – “[God] covers the sky with clouds; [God] supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.”
  • Reflection: God’s presence is faithful. It is not dependent on the weather, or the season. Yet it is revealed in everything that creation shows us. Every moment has something for us to learn, to question, to explore, to try to understand.
Our intellect, our curiosity, are tools of sentience endowed within us by Godself. Although we cannot explain everything, we try. And yet, God is more than we can capture with art or science. God cannot be contained or constrained by our language and categories.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Do a puzzle, or a crossword, or a sudoku problem. Tackle a riddle. Or pick up a new skill, like making a different stitch or new knot. Try a new recipe. Learn a word in this language or another language! Use your mind for some fun problem-solving or learning.

Song:

I think, at a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift would be curiosity. — Eleanor Roosevelt
