June 3 Daily Devotional

Tuesday, June 3

  • Scripture: Hosea 10:12 “Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you.”
  • Reflection: Righteousness is such a loaded word. Often it seems like a bad word, because it has connotations of being judgmental, of believing in one absolute right and wrong, and perceiving the world through that sense. Yet righteousness, at its best, is meant to suggest being in right-relationship with agape, with Holy Love, with the aspirations of our faith for God’s kingdom, which is the upside-down world of justice and love that is equitable and sustainable for all people.
Such a relationship is cultivated through intentional actions and integrity. By breaking up the “unplowed ground” of our lives, we open ourselves to new possibilities and divine guidance. Where in your life do you find that vulnerability, opening yourself up, and allowing yourself to be affected and touched by justice, love, healing, and hope, may prepare you for spiritual growt?
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Identify one area where you desire more integrity. Choose a deliberate step to act with intention in this area today.
