Scripture: Matthew 17:20 – “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.'”
Reflection: We aren’t required to cast aside doubt. Nor to give up our intellect, our curiosity, or our questions. We are met by God just where we are. Our skepticism, our wonderings, and our discernment are some of our God-given capabilities. They help us perceive the ways that God is revealed to us.
The impact of faith may begin small. It may start like the seeds we have witnessed sprouting into full-fledged blooms, bushes, and foliage this season. From those tiny elements, that contain all the potential of life and hope, may grow bigger ripples of engagement and transformation. Roots take us deeper, shoots help us rise up.
In particular, the image in this text, about the mustard seed, reminds us that the possibility for significant change resides within such small beginnings. Consider how tiny steps and simple acts can transform into powerful experiences of faith and service.
Spiritual Practice Prompt: In the morning, choose one small act of love and compassion you can may choose today. Take note, over the day, about how it impacts your perspective or circumstances.
