Day 3 — Hope for the Oppressed

  • Scripture: Psalm 9:9 “YHWH is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.”
  • Reflection: Who do you know who needs shelter? Respite? Sanctuary?
Hope requires tangible relationships and resources. It is expressed as a plan with small, actionable steps that lead toward a goal that changes circumstances.
Who do you know who needs mercy? Healing? Protection? Recognition?
Who has been deprived of full access to education? Voting rights? Freedom of thought and speech? Autonomy over their own bodies? Economic mobility? Wellbeing, health care and mental health support? Basic nutrition? Recognition within legal systems? Access to equitable systems and services?
Are YOU someone who needs one or more of these safety nets within society? What obstacles have you experienced? After all, each of us is vulnerable, and needs help, at one time or another
  • Practice: Give today—time, money, or advocacy—to an organization that protects the vulnerable.
  • Song: “Stand Up” by Cynthia Erivo: https://youtu.be/sn19xvfoXvk?si=6FvZxWrpD3ouk7Bs
  •  “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
