Day 2 — Hope in the Wilderness
  • Scripture: Isaiah 35:1 — “The desert and the dry land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.”
  • Reflection: Scripture insists that desolate places—literal and emotional—are capable of blooming. As people of hope, we are reminded to believe in hidden seeds. Indeed, the world reveals this to us in regular seasons and cycles.
Times such as winter may seem like a period and place of desolation. Yet within earth, as winter occurs, dormancy of life provides respite and renewal. Potential propagates, and new things will emerge with softening of the earth and the coming of spring many months from now.
  • Practice: Spend five minutes in silence imagining one desert-place in your life bursting into color.
  • Song: “Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + The Machine: https://youtu.be/iWOyfLBYtuU?si=oIVFbvv43ZTOcwZg
  • “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” — Albert Camus
