Monday, September 1 — Setting a Foundation: Beginning with God’s Presence
- Scripture: Lamentations 3:22-23 — “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
- Reflection: As we begin a new month, turn the page of the calendar and consider this a chance to renew your commitment to your growth and exploration as a spiritual being. The verse above reminds us of God’s steadfast presence. It also prompts us with the chance to start over.
As we lay the foundations for the new month, we express gratitude. Each day is an opportunity to renew our trust in God’s holy and loving presence. To kick-start this series of devotionals, we begin by giving thanks. We say it to God, and we pass it along to others. These expressions prepare our hearts for the journey ahead.
For this month, we will invite focus on a different spiritual practice each day of thr week, and revisit those themes for the month.- Monday: Giving & Serving Others
- Tuesday: Sharing a Meal or Communal Activity
- Wednesday: Breathing, Gratitude & Mindfulness
- Thursday: Music & Creativity
- Friday: Learning, Studying & Exploring
- Saturday: Sabbath for Moving through the World Play & Recreation
- Sunday: Prayer & Worship
- Spiritual Practice: Mondays will be a chance to give or serve. Today, take a moment to thank God for the new morning and the new month. What do you appreciate about September and its possibilities? Extend that gratitude to someone else: thank someone during your daily activities, as an act of kindness. Giving to others can be as simple as noticing them and appreciating them.
