October 31: Celebrating the Journey of Transition

  • Scripture: Psalm 126:3 “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”
  • Reflection: As October concludes, reflect on the month and the season. Consider the changes that have unfolded.
What is revealed in your life this cycle? This season? What has ended? What is starting? Rather than masquerading, what authentic identity are you embracing? What purpose has found expression in your life?
TS Eliot wrote, “For last year’s words belong to last year’s language, And next year’s words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.”
Today — Halloween — marks All Hallows Eve and the night prior to All Saints followed by All Souls. In many cultures, today is recognized as a time when the veil between worlds thins. Connection to other realities and planes of existence is either feted or feared on such evenings. What about the day and season have frightened you or made you uncomfortable? What prompts you to celebrate?
Today we are invited to note God’s presence in what we discover about ourselves as we reflect on this month. Embrace change that leads to growth. Attend to hope planted along the way. Every step of transformation has been a part of our spiritual evolution. Appreciate what has already occurred and look forward with expectancy for what’s to come.
  • Spiritual Practice: Write a letter of gratitude. Make it a prayer to Godself.

Song:

“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” ― Arnold Bennett
