Day 5 — Justice as Thanksgiving
- Scripture: Amos 5:24 — But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
- Reflection: The scripture above has been highlighted and translated into action by some of our greatest cultural icons, including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. What would such a call to action and justice look like right now?
Biblical gratitude is not silent in the face of suffering. In fact, in the midst of sorrow and turmoil, the scriptures continue to give thanks as a faith0-based practice. Consider this: to praise God is to hunger for a world where all can thrive.
Perhaps we cannot change everything. Yet we can choose causes or concerns that we care about, ones that especially need attention in the current division and dysfunction within our society. We can be agents of change. We can also resist the harm currently being inflicted to so many members of our communities. We can support proactive and relationship-building deeds at the local level.
Gratitude moves us from comfort to solidarity. To advocacy. To action. - Practice: Donate to, share, or amplify a justice-oriented organization doing meaningful work.
