June 27 Daily Devotional

Friday, June 27

  • Scripture: John 4:35 – “Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
  • Reflection: The seasons of planting and harvesting have their own rhythm, and come in waves throughout the summer and autumn. For instance, now it’s time for strawberries!
When we live in connection to the earth, or to agricultural cycles, we anticipate such harvests in due course. Yet sometimes the crop is ready sooner than we think or expect!
What is coming to fruition now in your life? What needs more patience? What needs your time, attention, and presence urgently, so that it can be appreciated and put to its purpose? What will be wasted, if it’s left untapped or unnoticed? What needs more nurturing and time?
Be mindful of God’s timing. Cultivate mindfulness, too, about your connection between your whole self in relationship to holy love. Such awareness helps you recognize a spiritual opportunity when it comes
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Is there something that you can pluck, which is ripe and ready in your life or community, for your attention and use right now? Some action you might take? Some word you might speak? Some connection you might deepen in your community?

Song:

What we plant in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the harvest of action. — Meister Eckhart
