June 26 Daily Devotional

Thursday, June 26

  • Scripture: Isaiah 55:10–11 “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth, making it flourish so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth.”
  • Reflection: Yesterday we talked about water as an image of God’s unending love. Today’s text suggests the insight and revelation God offers like rain, falling out of the sky, touching our perception, so that our understanding changes. Maybe it happenes through reading or studying scripture. Or perhaps our enlightenment occurs when we explore the first holy text of God’s creation: the natural world.
Just as rain encourages growth in the garden, God’s word and revelation nurture our souls, hearts, and minds. We stretch and grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
We cannot absorb and process all of the holy moments of our lives at once. We experience them across time. We grow in phases, day by day, season by season, year by year. We need replenishment, from the rain, from God’s recurring revelation in small glimpses and experiences, across a lifetime, in order to grow.
Spiritual Practice Prompt: Go outside and let the world be your scripture. What does it tell you today?
