- Scripture: Jeremiah 17:7–8 – But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
- Reflection: Storms and droughts will come in our lives. Deep-rooted trees endure. We translate this reference into our spiritual, psychological, physical, and emotional lives.
Deep roots grow out of trust and resilience. Trusting ourselves, those we love, and God then anchors us during perilous experiences. Such depth provides stability and strength, allows us to remain grounded and centered even in times of stress and trial.
One Tithe.ly author writes, “1) Recognize the difference between wants and needs. The first thing you can do to grow in your trust of God is to recognize the difference between wants and needs … 2) Remember this is an act of worship. When you open your hands to God, it is an act of worship. This is why open hands lead to an open heart relationally …. This act of opening your hands … is recognition … trusting [God] with all of your life, not just a part … 3) Return a portion to God. [God] directs us to live in the discipline of returning a portion, the first portion, to [Godself]. Why? [God] wants us to keep open hands and an open heart.”
