DAILY DEVOTIONALS for JULY
Tuesday, July 1
- Scripture: Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
- Reflection: This text has been translated into a classic prayer or meditation for mindfulness exercises. Try it while breathing intentionally. Let it repeat over and over in your mind as a mantra as you break down the phrase into shorter and shorter segments, until it’s only one word:
Be still, and know that I am God.
Be still, and know that I am.
Be still, and know.
Be still.
Be.
In the whirlwind of daily life, our moments are often filled with activity, noise, and distractions. This scripture reminds us of the profound power in stillness. Being quiet with yourself, attuned to God’s presence, is an invitation to cease our striving, to pause the constant hustle, and to gently rest in the knowledge that we are held by something greater. Embracing moments of slow, intentional mindfulness creates space for the divine presence to fill our hearts and transform our perspectives. Being still before God can ground us, remind us of our purpose, and renew our spirits. - Spiritual Practice Prompt: Give yourself enough time today to focus on this exercise. Find a quiet space today to sit for ten minutes. Focus on your breath, letting it slow and deepen. Focus on the mantra: Be still, and know that I am God. Be still, and know that I am. Be still, and know. Be still. Be.
Notice any thoughts or feelings or sensations that arise, acknowledge them without judgment, and gently return to your breath.
