HOPE Daily Devotional: Dec 1

HOPE Daily Devotional (Advent)

Cultivate hope each day this week.

Dec 1: Expectation of Hope

  • Scripture: Isaiah 9:2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness— on them light has shined.
  • Meditation: As we prepare for the annual Christian celebration of the birth of Emmanuel, we cultivate appreciation for different aspects of Advent. This week we focus on hope. Let us begin the week by anticipating the arrival of Light of the World. Meanwhile, how do you help people kindle the light within themselves? And how is the light withing you sparked anew? We are all, as scripture says, children of Light. All beings, if we expand our understanding, bear the fingerprint of God’s goodness. All humans, at our best, embody this quality of carrying light within us and for each other.
  • Spiritual Practice: Write down three hopes you have for this Advent season.

SONGS:

This is the time to be slow — John O’Donohue
This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light. If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.
