- Scripture: Luke 15:22-24 – “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it, so we can celebrate and be merry. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
- Reflection: Compassion for those who have been disconnected or missing from our lives brings a specific form of joy. Reconnecting — with healthy boundaries — can be a form of healing and fulfillment,
Rebuilding of relationships may simply involve time and communication. Attending a reunion. Sending texts or messages. Making a call. ‘Friending’ someone on social media.
In other cases, reconnecting becomes a step to be taken, with care and support, in the process of reconciliation and forgiveness. Then we must be aware of expectations and set healthy boundaries.
Whenever someone we have longed to welcome into our circle of belonging returns, we are invited to celebrate. We broaden and deepen our community.
In whatever form a sustainable reconnection is possible for you, allow it to take place. Get in touch with, or reply to, folks with whom you haven’t been in touch: friends, family, classmates, teachers, colleagues, mentors, teammates, or other people with whom you have affinity (including oneself). Do so if it will bring you enjoyment and be a healthy choice for you, rather than a risky one that exposes you. - Spiritual Practice Prompt: Celebrate someone you care about today with a gesture—smile, call, message, card, or sending along an image or a song.
