August 7 Daily Devotional

Thursday, August 7

  • Scripture: Isaiah 55:12 – “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
  • Reflection: As God’s handiwork, nature’s simple existence holds the capacity to connect us to what is bigger than ourselves, and to draw delight from us. We can find in it beauty. We can discover in it playfulness. We are encouraged to join in that natural celebration.
Today, notice the playful and stunning world around you—trees dappling the ground with shadow, air moving as wind, clouds rolling and rising, sunlight touching different surfaces, water flowing and moving — and allow it to fill you with delight. If you can venture outside, let some part of what you recognize as changeful and playful touch you: sun, wind, water, light.
Rejoicing in creation reconnects us with divine joy.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Spend time outdoors, observing and appreciating nature’s playfulness. Let your senses drink in the messages it offers you.
