Wednesday: Breathing, Gratitude & Mindfulness
September 17
- Scripture: Psalm 103:2-4 — “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”
- Reflection: Following our breath, taking time to pause and inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, slowly and deeply, we pay attention. We grow mindful. This deepens awareness of God’s kindness and blessings. It prompts perspective. It helps us become centered on gratitude.
Breathing also connects us back to our body. Jesus always cared first for people’s essential needs such as health, food, water and shelter, before addressing spiritual lessons. Begin with the basics, such as respiration and binding the heart and mind to the physical self. Be more wholly present. And give thanks. - Spiritual Practice: Today, spend five minutes in deep breathing, then list five blessings, thanking God.
