Tuesday: Sharing a Meal or Communal Activity
September 16
- Scripture: Matthew 18:20 — “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
- Reflection: We are designed to belong to each other. To have relationships. To have an identity that i s further deepened and echoed through relationship.
Even Godself is a trinity: Creator, Christ and Holy Spirit. People were created, according to Genesis, to be companions to Godself. Our origin stories tell us that we were meant to connect both with other humans and with the Divine.
Our spiritual practices include connection. Gathering around food or shared activities creates a sacred space to restore community and spirit. It reminds us that the Spirit connects us.
Additionally, when we gather for a shared meal, we are asked to remember how Love was broken and poured out for us. When we get together, Love returns to us. Let us honor that truth. - Spiritual Practice: Say YES to an opportunity to join others in a meal, activity, or an event this week. Allow yourself to be social and to connect. Or create the opportunity by initiating the invitation yourself. It can be as simple as taking a walk, having a conversation, or enjoying a cup of coffee together.

Food is the great connector, and laughs are the cement. If we go out to eat and have a nice meal, that’s one thing. If we can share a laugh, now we’re friends. — Philip Rosenthal
