  • Scripture: Proverbs 15:13 – “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.”
  • Reflection: This scripture reminds us about ancient and practical wisdom. We are advised to pass along cheerfulness. We can rejuvenate our own outlook and support others’ wellbeing by sharing simple expressions of care, humor, and a positive mood. If we’re not feeling upbeat on the inside, then exerting ourselves to be kind, cheerful, and attentive to others may reframe our own inner state of being.
Like other spiritual exercises, putting this approach into practice can build its potency. It contributes to our resilience and sense of wellbeing. And it bolsters the experiences of others, too.
Smiling, sharing good news, saying thank you, or even noticing someone and asking about their day are all forms of compassion and positivity. Passing along interesting and upbeat stories, trivia, jokes, or other bits of information, that offset all the bad news we so often imbibe, can be another friendly habit.
We can transform and uplift each other in our daily life. External acts of good will and kindness can change our inner mood as well.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Reach out to someone with a kind word or a humorous joke.
