July 20 Daily Devotional

DAILY DEVOTIONALS for JULY

Sunday, July 20

  • Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
  • Reflection: Jesus offers us a divine invitation to lay down our heavy burdens and find rest in Holy Love. Such release of what we carry creates space for new growth. It allows us to pause and breathe. We gather our energy, renewed and restored. We have capacity for new experiences and renewed connections. Such respite enables us to face life’s challenges with renewed strength and hope.
What must be supported and upheld, God can do. We are not alone. What should be turned over, and never picked up again, we release into God’s keeping. This passage also reminds us, we’re not in control and in charge of every detail of life and the world and all of its events. We can be assured that we are in community and connection, and our burdens are shared.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Take a moment today to pray and surrender your concerns, your worries, your overwhelming responsibilities, to Jesus. Visualize laying each worry at God’s feet. Notice how and when, in your daily life, other’s help you handle what would be overwhelming by yourself.
