May 16 Spring Devotional

Friday, May 16

  • Scripture: Isaiah 41:20 – “So that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this.”
  • Reflection: Touch something from the natural world today. Feel water flow through your fingers. Hold a stone. Lean close to a new leaf or bud. Hold soil in your palm. Today, find a way to acknowledge God’s work in your surroundings through the sense of touch.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Take a photo of a natural scene that captivates your imagination, and share it as a reminder of God’s handiwork. Can you convey something about the sensation of touching it? Can you show its texture? Its scale? Its surface? What is missing from the image, that you felt when you had the encounter?

Song:

Hold your hands out over the earth as over a flame. To all who love her, who open to her the doors of their veins, she gives of her strength, sustaining them with her own measureless tremor of dark life. Touch the earth, love the earth, honour the earth, her plains, her valleys, her hills, and her seas; rest your spirit in her solitary places. For the gifts of life are the earth’s and they are given to all, and they are the songs of birds at daybreak, Orion and the Bear, and dawn seen over ocean from the beach.— Henry Beston
