HOLY WEEK DEVOTIONALS
April 17 (Maundy Thursday – Last Supper)
- Scripture: Luke 22:19-20 – And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
- Reflection: On Maundy Thursday, we remember the final meal with beloved companions, where Jesus instituted said the words which we later formalized as communion or the Eucharist, inviting us to remember Him through the breaking of bread and the sharing of wine.
This sacred act is a reminder of love and sacrifice. As we partake in communion, we are called to examine our hearts and recommit ourselves to loving one another, reflecting Christ’s love in our communities. Consider how this act of remembrance can draw us closer to Jesus and to one another as a body of believers.
Any meal can become holy, regardless of its contents, when shared with intention and compassion and mindfulness and gratitude. With whom do you break bread and share meals? - Spiritual Practice Prompt: If possible, participate in a communion service, or reflect on the significance of the Last Supper by sharing a meal with someone in a spirit of gratitude and remembrance.

So in this slice of bread there is sunshine, there is cloud, there is the labor of the farmer, the joy of having flour, and the skill of the baker and then—miraculously! —there is the bread. The whole cosmos has come together so that this piece of bread can be in your hand. — Thich Nhat Hanh
