Sunday: Prayer & Worship: Connection with God
September 7
- Scripture: Psalm 95:6-7 — “Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.”
- Reflection: We need a chance to regain perspective. To be in awe of something bigger than ourselves. This is Godself for those who identify as Judeo-Christian. We grow through opportunities to stand in wonder, and feel the scale of the universe.
What encounters have brought you to such breath-taking, memorable moments? Looking up at the night sky? Standing on a summit? Being on the ocean? Being present for a birth or death? Playing with a young creature, such as kitten or puppy? Watching new growth emerge in the garden? Seeing the leaves change? Listening to a meaningful song or performance?
Worship through prayer and praise deepens our relationship with God. Attend a service. Participate in a ritual. Or set aside time for your own form of contemplation, mindfulness, and meditation. It’s a time to surrender, celebrate, and renew our faith. If you want to read one journalists’ observations about praying more deeply, read this article. - Spiritual Practice: Set aside time to be alone (intentionally) or to gather with others and immerse yourself in appreciation. Name it, sing it, pray it, experience it. When you lift up prayers, include praise, confession, and requests for what you (and the world or others in your life) may need. Make it a time of heartfelt connection.
