Monday: Giving & Serving Others
September 22
- Scripture: Isaiah 58:10 — “And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”
- Reflection: We are all interconnected. This scripture reminds us to look beyond ourselves, and find ways to serve others. Such acts put our own challenges into perspective. It also nourishes our own wellbeing.
Genuine care for other people is driven by compassion. Helping others not only alleviates suffering, but reflects God’s light into the world. We remind others they are not alone, as we are also reminded that we are never alone. - Spiritual Practice: Choose one way to get involved. Participate in a fundraiser. Learn more about a local nonprofit, if you’re not already involved with one, and explore whether you can give time, resources, or funds to support it. Or find a direct way to help a friend or neighbor. Look for opportunities today to serve. Then pray for the well-being of the ones whom you help.

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
