Thursday: Music & Creativity
September 11
- Scripture: Psalm 100:1-2 — “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.”
- Reflection: Creative expression is a pathway to connecting with the holy. It is a form of worship, and reflects the Creator’s own being, as we are meant to do. Where else do inspiration and imagination begin? We experience glimpses of the ephemeral and eternal, but we never fully capture those elusive aspects of reality and human experience … we simply translate them into our own creative acts.
If you have a regular practice for tapping into creativity, make time for it today. Knit. Write. Sketch. Paint. Sing. Play. Compose. Dance. Sew. Choreograph. Design. Speak. Perform. Build. Cook. Concoct. Craft. Experiment. Explore. Mess. Observe. Record. Edit. Mix. Mold. Sculpt. Shape. Smooth. Sand. Stain. Fit. Tuck. Twirl. Turn. Leap. Hang. Plot. Plan. Calculate. Count. Extrapolate. Think. Muse. Reflect. Journal. Customize. Make. Fix. Repair. Construct. Expand. Renovate. Repurpose. Convert.
Artistic moments awaken our hearts and mind. In such acts, we are vessels that hold and share some portion of God’s innovative energy.
Then take time to admire the creativity of others. Experience it. Immerse yourself in it. Give time and attention to it. - Spiritual Practice: Participate in one of your creative pastimes. Remember, the power of art comes about through the act of making something, rather than the final product.

Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth. ― Rumi
I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music. — Billy Joel
