October 6: Patience in the Process

  • Scripture: James 5:7-8 — “Be patient, therefore, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.”
  • Reflection: Growth and transformation take time. We might want to speed up the process, take shortcuts, or graduate from the journey to a more comfortable and defined part of life. Yet we are on God’s time, in so many ways.
Pausing to breathe, take stock, and become still can help. This is the first stance of patience. Rather than always reacting, or trying to be on the move, and keeping busy, we can slow down and become sitll. We take the risk, the step, of being present in the midst of change and its discomfort. Patience becomes another way of building resilience, even when progress feels slow. Each experience with waiting deepens our connection to God and our inner being, and prepares us for what’s next.
  • Spiritual Practice: Practice mindful waiting today. During an everyday activity, pause and intentionally breathe, trusting that God’s work is unfolding even in moments of stillness.

Song:

“Patience is not simply the ability to wait—it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.” — Joyce Meyer
