Day 12 — Wisdom from Many Voices

  • Scripture: Proverbs 1:5  — Let the wise also hear and gain in learning, and the discerning acquire skill.
  • Reflection: Gratitude honors diverse wisdom. We appreciate, as people of faith, the experience of ongoing learning and revelation.
God speaks through many sources. The first and earliest holy text was creation itself. The world continues to speak to all humans everywhere. For many people, nature remains the holiest of places: an outdoor sanctuary as the location of the most authentic and deepest encounters, immersing ourselves within that which is larger and more everlasting than ourselves.
People have also been given the gift of intellect and judgment. We accrue experience.
We have wisdom texts including scripture that are narratives of human encounter with the divine. In addition, we have a legacy of  ritual and tradition, developed across time and culture, by our faith traditions.
We can also learn directly from each other: prophets and poets, artists and musicians, scholars and rebels. God imbued us with the capacity for discovery and creativity that grow out of science, art, and learning. Meanwhile children, too, become fonts of truth-telling.
Faith embraces learning throughout our lives, from the moment we draw our first breath to the time we take our last.
  • Practice: Read or listen to something today from a voice unlike your own—different culture, religion, or perspective.
