- Scripture: Psalm 8:3-4 – “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them?”
- Reflection: Looking up at the night sky can inspire feelings of awe. It can also prompt humility. The vastness of the universe illustrates God’s creativity and power. What imagination gave us an infinity filled with light and possibility? Despite our smallness, when we stand in the presence of a world without an edge or an ending, we are deeply valued by Godself.
Size and scale aren’t the measures of our significance. Compared to the boundless nature of the cosmos, we are finite. Contrasted with the infinity of time, we are limited. Yet God chooses us.
Quantity also isn’t the measure of our value. Being one among many doesn’t make us less important, though many systems in our world would cause us to think so. Any time we are reduced from our unique names and identites into anonymous numbers and codes, we are made to feel invisible and unremarkable.
Instead, each of us is unique and irreplaceable. Each of us is beloved and claimed by God. - Spiritual Practice Prompt: Spend time watching the stars tonight. Reflect on your place in God’s creation.
