First Full Week of Lent: Deepening Faith

March 14 (Friday – Studying/Learning)

  • Scripture: Proverbs 18:15 – An intelligent mind acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
  • Reflection: God gave us intellect as part of the way that we understand, process, and experience the world. Intellect is one of the ways we discern revelation in our own lives, through the world around us, through the teachings and inspiration of contemporary leaders and teachers and figures, and also through study of scripture and traditions of the church.
Stay curious. Ask questions. Embrace uncertainty.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: What is one question about God or faith that you have? Ask it! Have a conversation with the pastor, other study partners, or explore it through other resources.

Songs:

We do not think ourselves into new ways of living, we live ourselves into new ways of thinking. — Richard Rohr

Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn. — CS Lewis

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. — C. S. Lewis
