DAILY DEVOTIONALS for JULY

July 3

  • Scripture: Mark 6:31 “Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’”
  • Reflection: Even Jesus and his disciples needed moments of retreat from their work. Repeatedly, Jesus turns to time on the water, or time apart on mountainsides, or meals with intimate friends, to pray and rest.
This modeling of self-care is reminder for us as followers of the Way. Retreats are critical in our fast-paced world. Constant connectivity often overstimulates us and burns out our reserves. The example of Jesus invites us to step away, not out of neglect for our responsibilities, but to bolster well-being. When we build in the regular practice of self-care, we are then more healthy and available to help others. Such sacred pauses, regularly incorporated into our self-care routines, allow us to recharge, gain clarity, and cultivate resilience. Consider where you can create space for quiet retreat and renewal in your life.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Identify a place that brings you peace—a park, a room in your home, or a garden. Spend at least 10 minutes there today, simply observing and resting without the distraction of technology.

Song:

Solitude is not the absence of company, but the moment when our soul is free to speak to us and help us decide what to do with our life. — Paulo Coelho
