January 22: Faith and Things Unseen
- Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 — Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
- Reflection: Faith is the willingness to accept the mystery that also comes with our spiritual journey. We cannot always explain how our inner life, our prayer, and the outcomes we experience and observe are connected.
And perhaps to explain ‘mystery’ will take away some of its magic, its power. As if we could explain it anyway.
Leave room in your mind and heart for questions, wondering, uncertainty, curiosity. Let yourself revel in the parts of life and the world around you that you cannot fully explain. We have so many words for these moments. Godwink. Blessing. Kismet. Fate. Coincidence. Happenstance. Chance. Luck. Destiny.
Admit that some things are bigger than us, and beyond our capacity to fully delineate, or to know. Yet we experience them again and again. - Spiritual Discipline: Create a vision board reflecting what you seek Holy Love to do in your life this year.

My brothers and sisters, in the course of a long life in the service of our Mother the Church, let me tell you that the one sin I have come to fear more than any other is certainty. Certainty is the great enemy of unity. Certainty is the deadly enemy of tolerance. Even Christ was not certain at the end. ‘Eli Eli, lama sabachtani?’ He cried out in His agony at the ninth hour on the cross. ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ Our faith is a living thing precisely because it walks hand in hand with doubt. If there was only certainty, and if there was no doubt, there would be no mystery, and therefore no need for faith.— Conclave
