LEARNING about LOVE

Daily Devotional
Cultivate different facets of love each day this month.
February 6: Compassionate Love
- Scripture: Colossians 3:12 – Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
- Reflection: Consider that you are, for people in your daily life, the face of God. You are God’s love walking in the world. Yes, as humans, each of us is imperfect in how we reflect and carry out love. Yet we are called to embody love as best we can.
Compassion is a vital expression of love that calls us to care for others’ needs. By what love language do you express your care for others? Perhaps through creativity, or by acts of service, or using words, or by touch. - Spiritual Practice Prompt: Volunteer your time to help someone in need. If you already have a regular volunteer role, consider how your presence in that role reflects this passage.

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. ― Dalai Lama XIV
A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. ― Albert Einstein
