LEARNING about LOVE
Daily Devotional

Cultivate different facets of love each day this month.
February 21: Discerning Love

  • Scripture: Philippians 1:9-10 – And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight  to help you to determine what really matters.
  • Reflection: Reflect on the importance of discerning love and how it guides our actions and decisions. All people are sometimes uncertain or confused. We face choices and wonder which path to take. We consider our options. Which way are we called to go?
First of all, your mind and body know more than you realize. If you imagine choices, visualizing each one separately, and listen to the message your body gives you, it may help you realize that you already know what is the wise choice. You can feel it in the tension or relaxation of large muscles, hands and feet, legs and arms, neck and shoulders, breath and pulse.
Likewise, you can make lists of pros and cons. Write it down. Put it outside yourselr. Discuss it with trusted listeners. Reflect. Consider not only the choice, but how it contributes to balance in your life and significant relationships, and allow the wellbeing of yourself and your loved ones to be part of the factor.
Finally, pray. Ask God for help, guidance, and clarity. Listen to what comes. Allow time for clarity to emerge.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Spend time in prayer, seeking God’s guidance on how to love, choose, and act wisely.

SONG

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. — Rumi
