- Community Event: ART of FARMING: Harvesting History from White Mountain Paintings
(art (c) by Erik Koeppel
4:30pm • Jackson Historical Society- Bob Cottrell, curator of the Jackson Historical Society, will discuss the art of farming through White Mountain paintings. He will show how to interpret old barns and how to “date” cows from paintings at the Society, and how artwork documents the history of farming in the area. The focus will be on the farm’s seasonal cycles and puzzle out changes over time in barn styles, farm tools, and equipment as documented in the art. He will navigate through paintings to uncover age-old mysteries and finally answer the question of why a DaVinci painting is so expensive. Hint: It has to do with farming.
