August 30 Daily Devotional

Saturday, August 30

  • Scripture: Pslam 94:19 – When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.
  • Reflection: Do you feel weighed down by anxiety or stress or worry or other difficult emotions and thoughts? Letting go of burdens, by discussing them with trusted listeners, journaling about them, or using payers, mindfulness and contemplative exercises to release them into the keeping of Godself, makes space for brighter spirit. Self-care routines, including nutrition, exercise, sleep, recreation, spiritual practices, balanced with a sense of purpose and service to others, will all contribute to inner equilibrium.
Additionally, the company of supportive people makes a difference. The comfort of connection and relationship can reinforce wellbeing.
Finally, offering comfort and compassion to others can also help us focus away from our own cares. It can give us perspective.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Write down something that is concerning you. Tear the paper into pieces, and toss it into flowing water, like a nearby stream or river. Or burn it away (safely). Find a safe way to release it, and let the symbolic act of liberation help create some space for cheer to find you.

Song:

The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves. Hellen Keller
