August 2 Daily Devotional

Saturday, August 2

  • Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:4 – “A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”
  • Reflection: Balance brings us back to the center. We lean into the extremes, cantilevers outward, and sway and bend and move back into the middle, low and grounded. We find our equilibrium.
The world around us is full of news and demands and highs and lows. We are invariably pulled and tugged by those external influences. In the midst of calls to be stressed and worried, we need chances to play and celebrate also.
Today find some music and take a moment to move and dance. Relax. Play a game. Your worry and stress cannot change any situation, but your smile, your deep breath, your capacity to be present to the moment will certainly offer resilience.
As God’s children, we are invited to live fully in each moment and each season.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Spend some time dancing to your favorite music. Let the movement be spontaneous and joyful, celebrating the gift of life. If you’re nearby, attend the Covered Bridge dance in Jackson, for instance!

Song:

Dance first. Think later. It’s the natural order. ― Samuel Beckett
