April 6th Daily Devotional

LIVING, LEARNING & LOVING during LENT

Lenten devotionals for March and April. We will focus on a different concept each day of the week: Sundays: Resting/Taking Sabbath Mondays: Fasting Tuesdays: Giving Wednesdays: Serving Thursdays: Praying Fridays: Studying/Learning Saturdays: Celebrating/Playing.

April 6 (Sunday – Resting/Taking Sabbath)

  • Scripture: Psalm 42:1-2 – As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When shall I come and behold the face of God?
  • Reflection: In this weekly practice, whether Sunday is our sabbath or another day is assigned to this role (as in Jewish and Islamic practices), we are reminded to take a break and be renewed. By resting, we replenish our souls in God’s presence. How will we seek God’s presence on our dedicated Sabbath day? Through participating in worship? By seeking out community connection? Through reading and prayer? By immersing ourselves in the natural world? By withdrawing into a contemplatve time and practice?
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Dedicate time to connecting with God amidst your busy week. What works best to give you the space for this spiritual practice?
Song:

Sabbath is a moment of holy time that puts us in touch with the sacred.” – Wayne Muller, Sabbath: Restoring the Sacred Rhythm of Rest.
