April 1st Daily Devotional

LIVING, LEARNING & LOVING during LENT

Lenten devotionals for March and April. We will focus on a different concept each day of the week: Sundays: Resting/Taking Sabbath Mondays: Fasting Tuesdays: Giving Wednesdays: Serving Thursdays: Praying Fridays: Studying/Learning Saturdays: Celebrating/Playing.

April 1st (Tuesday – Giving)

  • Scripture: James 2:15-16 – If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill’, and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?
  • Reflection: Giving can be more than financial in nature. It can also be an offering of time, presence, and attention. Sometimes we can intervent or act, and change someone else’s life for awhile, or long-term. Other times, we can simply bear witness to someone else’s life and existence, when we cannot change their circumstances, but acknowledge their experience and offer them our presence along the way. Giving yourself, your time and your companionship, can be the greatest way of giving. You are giving a small portion of yourself when you do so. Such presence, such giving of ourselves, in balanced and sustainable measures, reflects our faith in action.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Offer someone your company, by phone or virtual video or in person, as you are able to do so.

Song:

We must each lead a way of life with self-awareness and compassion, to do as much as we can. Then, whatever happens, we will have no regrets. — The Dalai Lama
