Day 16 — Joy That Lifts the Lowly
- Scripture: Luke 1:52–53 — “God has brought down the powerful… and lifted up the lowly; filled the hungry with good things.”
- Reflection: Mary’s song — called the Magnificat — is a revolutionary hymn of joy for the marginalized. The mother of God imagined a world wherein her own child — hunted by powerful enemies, forced into exile, and ultimately living a life that would cause him to challenge authorities who would try, torture, and execute him — believed God chose the side of those who struggled for voice, recognition, and access to the resources and rights they needed to live as fully human and holy beings. As we know, death was overthrown and all things are possible. Joy belongs to all of us … in abundance.
Where in your life do you lack abundance and struggle with hungers or appetites? Where do you see that challenge for others? - Practice: Donate food or volunteer for hunger-relief.

- Joy is not made to be a crumb.” — Mary Oliver
