October 14: Reaffirming Your Identity in Christ

  • Scripture:  2 Corinthians 13:5:  Examine yourselves to see whether you are living in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?
  • Reflection: Recognizing our identity as rooted in Christ gives us add companionship and connection during change. Love has made a home in our lives (whether or not we always see and feel it).
We are not alone. We are connected to the one who has created a family of choice, rather than simply the family tied by blood and DNA.
Of course, the family of the Way can be a complex one, since we don’t exercise choice about who else is invited into this family … all are invited through Holy Love’s mandate. Yet in our local faith communities, we also establish bonds that are deep and centered in common values. Often our own chosen faith community offers intimate connections and friendships that can become as essential as our families of origin. Along the way, we develop relationships that mean we belong to each other.
  • Spiritual Practice: Reach out to one of your faith community connections, and celebrate the bonds of family — sisterhood and brotherhood — that you share through this kingdom on earth to which you belong.
