Thursday: Music & Creativity
September 18
- Scripture: Colossians 3:16 — “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
- Reflection: Our own God is the source of creativity. The first acts of creation, as recounted in the original stories of Genesis, came from God’s self.
We are reflections of that creative God, and endowed with our own capacity for innovation and invention. Such acts can take so many forms. One of those forms, universal across all cultures, is music.
We are also capable of being awed and inspired by natural phenomena that we cannot possibly recreate. We are designed to reflect wonder and praise. We detect in it the overarching anthem of the divine.
When we partake in creative activities and pastimes, we have a chance to set aside the cares of the world. We can become more fully connected to the Creator. We can find renewal and different forms of awareness. When we immerse ourselves in the creative works of others, or the natural wonders of the world, we reflect back the vision of our Creator. - Spiritual Practice: Spend time with music today.
