First Full Week of Lent: Deepening Faith
March 13 (Thursday – Praying)
- Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
- Reflection: God listens, even if you don’t open up the conversation. Holy Love is present to your struggles and celebrations. All occasions are worth praying about.
Sometimes you can only find the fingerprints of God’s companionship afterward. Sometimes it’s hard to discover any evidence that God has been attuned to your life, your hopes and needs and challenges and aspirations.
Sometimes we measure the certainty that God listens by the fulfillment of our prayers. Yet God may listen, and answer, and respond in ways different from our requests or expectations. The promise is always that God hears us and God remains present to us. - Spiritual Practice Prompt: Create a prayer list to guide your conversations with God. What do you want to remember to lift up in appreciation, in need, in awe? Who else needs prayer?
