March 8 Lenten Devotional

LIVING, LEARNING & LOVING during LENT
Lenten devotionals for March and April. We will focus on a different concept each day of the week: Sundays: Resting/Taking Sabbath Mondays: Fasting Tuesdays: Giving Wednesdays: Serving Thursdays: Praying Fridays: Studying/Learning Saturdays: Celebrating/Playing.

March 8 (Saturday – Celebrating/Playing)

  • Scripture: Psalm 118:24 – This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
  • Reflection: Allow delight to overflow in your life as you celebrate God’s blessings. We are created to experience wonder and enjoyment, and then reflect this revelry back to God as praise and gratitude.
What about this day makes you smile, makes you laugh, helps you breathe more easily or discover more reasons to be thankful? Is your appreciation and play spontaneous or is it planned?
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Do something creative today—paint, draw, or write to express your delight.

Songs:

Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face. – Victor Hugo.

If bread is the first necessity of life, recreation is a close second. — Edward Bellamy

Mysteries, Yes Mary Oliver

Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous
to be understood.

How grass can be nourishing in the
mouths of the lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever
in allegiance with gravity
while we ourselves dream of rising.
How two hands touch and the bonds will
never be broken.
How people come, from delight or the
scars of damage,
to the comfort of a poem.

Let me keep my distance, always, from those
who think they have the answers.

Let me keep company always with those who say
“Look!” and laugh in astonishment,
and bow their heads.
