LEARNING about LOVE
Daily Devotional

Cultivate different facets of love each day this month.

February 20: Love for Neighbors

  • Scripture: Luke 10:27 – He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.”
  • Reflection: As discussed in other reflections, we are part of community. We are called to connect with our neighbors. That often means taking interest in people we don’t know, people who aren’t necessarily friends, folks who may be strangers. Yet we are all interconnected.
Consider how love can manifest in caring for those around you.
  • Spiritual Practice Prompt: Introduce yourself to someone in town that you haven’t met yet, someone you meet at the post office or  transfer station or library or in line at a store or somewhere else out in public.

SONG

If we are looking for insurance against want and oppression, we will find it only in our neighbors’ prosperity and goodwill and, beyond that, in the good health of our worldly places, our homelands. If we were sincerely looking for a place of safety, for real security and success, then we would begin to turn to our communities – and not the communities simply of our human neighbors but also of the water, earth, and air, the plants and animals, all the creatures with whom our local life is shared. — Wendell Berry
