7pm • Virtual with Tin Mountain, link to ZOOM: https://zoom.us/j/227844014
Coming to a wet roadway in spring near you – thousands and thousands of salamanders! Why do salamanders (and frogs and toads) cross roads on wet rainy nights in spring? Rick Van de Poll will lead this pre-migration workshop on NH’s salamanders that will introduce participants to the nine species in the region and discuss the life history, reproductive behavior, and migration strategies that have worked for several million years. We will focus on the three vernal pool salamanders that breed “explosively” in the spring (including the odd duck fall breeder to our south). All of the other six species can be found on the wet, warm roadways at night as well, so we’ll cover them too. Come prepared to get a firsthand look at these amazing amphibians!. Free.
