October 16: Cultivating Gratitude in Transition

  • Scriptural: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
  • Reflection: Gratitude transforms perspective. Even in times of change, notice the  blessings in your life. Take inventory. Frame your day, at beginning or ending (or both), with what gives your hope, appreciation, pleasure and calm. This practice nurtures hope and resilience. Throughout scripture, we are urged to start and finish our days in gratitude, because it resets the body, mind, and spirit to a positive place, even in the midst of transitions that may be challenging.
  • Spiritual Practice: Write down three things you’re thankful for today. Say thank you three times, once for each gratitude you have noted.

Song:

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues but the parent of all others.” — Cicero
