    • TIn recognition of the approaching mushroom season please join us for a discussion of Entangled Life: How Fungi Make our Worlds, Change Our Minds and Shape Our futures. “Entangled Life is a mind-altering journey into this hidden kingdom of life and shows that fungi are key to understanding the plane on which we live, and the ways we think feel and behave”- Goodreads Choice Award, Nominee for Best Science and Technology 2020. Books are available at the library.
    • Note: This book discussion complements an upcoming program on mushrooms: NH Mushroom Company Program, May 23 @ 7:00pm. An informational program from the NH Mushroom Company. Eric, the owner of NH Mushroom Company will provide information on foraging, identifying and cooking with mushrooms of all types. There will be plenty of time allowed for questions. “Beef” up your mushroom knowledge just in time for foraging season! This program will be held in the Community Room at JBES, right down the hall from the library.

    • Volunteers open day resource center for showers, mail pickup, grocery distribution, more.
  • Community Event: GIBSON CENTER GALA
    5:45 pm Doors Open / 7pm Program Begins • Majestic Theater, Conway
    • The Gibson Center’s annual gala will showcase the talents, accomplishments and contributions of seniors to the Mount Washington Valley. 
    • Laura Knoy, renowned New Hampshire journalist and founding host of New Hampshire Public Radio’s “The Exchange,”  moderates a panel discussion among Mary Bastoni, musician and artist;  Peter Fauver, judge and mediator; Bernie Livingston, coach and mentor; and Barbara Theriault, Jen’s Friends board member and all-around enthusiast. 
    • Attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres by chef Dave Blodgett, a cash bar, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Gibson Center. 
    • Doors open at 5:45, and the program begins at 7.

  • Community Event: Author Series: BIG TREES  of Northern New England
    7pm • Tin Mountain Conservation, Nature Learning Center
    • If you want to learn about the biggest trees in NH and nearby states then you won’ want to miss this exciting program. Wooden boat builder, outdoorsman and Big Tree Program measurer, Kevin Martin, will be showing and discussing these trees as described in his new book Big Trees of Northern New England. You will hear how he got involved with finding the trees, how lumber from similar trees is used in his boat building work, and how wildlife use these impressive parts of our landscape.
    • The discussion will include trees on public land in the region, and where they are located so you can go see them for yourself!
    • In Person Evening Program fee of $5/non-member or $10/household. Member are free!

    • Albany’s glacial waterfall offers distinctive geology, unique flora, and a beautiful setting for exploration. Join Tin Mountain staff on this journey to one of the area’s best kept secrets. Moderately strenuous hike, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water/snack.
